Mia is survived by her parents, William Wayne Goins and Amber Rose Soll Goins; sister, Zoey Lynn Goins; grandparents, Joy Lynn Tvelia, James G. Tvelia, Mark J. Soll, Tammy Lynn Flores, and William Roger Goins; aunt, Amber Lynn Keck; and uncles, Stephen Roger Goins, Kyle Ryan Soll, and Andrew J. Goins.
"Mia was born July 31, 2019 weighing 3 lbs 4oz. At 3 days old she was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. She had her first heart surgery at 2 weeks old because her lungs began to flood due to her large VSD. She then went home to grow and had open heart surgery at 4 months old in December 5, 2019. She had a G-tube placed March 2020, but now is a primarily oral eater, we are still working on her liquids. She does all kinds of therapies, PT, OT, feeding, speech, aquatic, chiropractor and others. She is learning to walk, crawl, and do so many amazing things. This sweet baby girl, Mia Mae, recently visited me in the studio and she and her family are just adorable! She was born in mid November and weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces upon her arrival! We got so many wonderful photos of this baby girl! It was great to meet her, as I had the pleasure of photographing her parents for a maternity shoot. Biofilm formation causes prolonged wound infections due to the dense biofilm structure, differential gene regulation to combat stress, and production of extracellular polymeric substances. Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are three difficult-to-treat biofilm-forming bacteria frequently found in wound infections. This work describes a novel wound dressing in the form of an electrochemical scaffold (e-scaffold) that generates controlled, low concentrations of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) suitable for killing biofilm communities without substantially damaging host tissue. Production of HOCl near the e-scaffold surface was verified by measuring its concentration using needle-type microelectrodes. E-scaffolds producing 17, 10 and 7 mM HOCl completely eradicated S. aureus, A. baumannii, and P. aeruginosa biofilms after 3 hours, 2 hours, and 1 hour, respectively. Cytotoxicity and histopathological assessment showed no discernible harm to host tissues when e-scaffolds were applied to explant biofilms. The described strategy may provide a novel antibiotic-free strategy for treating persistent biofilm-associated infections, such as wound infections.

Burge was a Ditolla-Cooper Award recipient, earned the Jenks Varsity Trojan Tough Award, and was an Honorable Mention All-Frontier League selection.

In 2018, while coaching, she led her team to a third place finish at regionals and a bid to nationals.
